DoD 2010 STTR

Time is of the essence when considering application to DoD. Topics are released just a few months prior to the proposal deadline. It is critical that you review the topics as soon as they are released if you want to insure adequate time to prepare a competitive proposal. Speaking of which…. Clock

The Department of Defense (DoD) has pre-released its first STTR solicitation for fiscal year 2010. Only the Army and the Navy are participating in the current STTR cycle. The program solicitation (designated 2010.A) and associated Army and Navy topics can be found at http://www.acq.osd. mil/osbp/sbir/solicitations/sttr10A/index.htm.

Please remember that STTR projects require collaboration with a non-profit research institution, typically a university.

The current Army program includes 30 topics in a number of application areas, including alternative energy, sensor technology, biological and chemical technologies, and robotics. The 45 listed Navy topics include advanced materials, alternative energy, and information technology applications. It is important to note that since the solicitation is in pre-release, topics can be modified or deleted until the DoD begins to accept proposals on February 23, 2010. The deadline for receipt of proposals is 6AM ET on March 24, 2010.

If you find a topic of interest in the solicitation, we urge you to contact the listed Technical Point of Contact (TPOC) for that topic as soon as possible to introduce yourself and your company, and to gauge whether your proposed answer to the topic is of interest to the DoD. Please keep in mind that after the DoD begins to accept proposals in response to the current solicitation on February 23rd, no communication with the cognizant TPOCs is allowed.

If you are interested in learning more about the DoD’s SBIR and/or STTR programs, or if you have any general questions regarding the current solicitation, please contact Andy Jakimcius at BBC (734-930-9741).

NOTE: Although the federal SBIR/STTR program is currently operating under a continuing resolution and is awaiting reauthorization in Congress, the DoD reauthorized their SBIR/STTR programs as part of the Defense Appropriations Bill last October. The DoD program has thus been extended through September 30, 2010.

NIH 2010.2 SBIR and STTR Omnibus Solicitations

NIH has released the 2010 SBIR and STTR Omnibus solicitations and as we have already alerted you to, there are significant changes. If you are planning on applying to NIH this calendar year we encourage you to take a look at the new solicitation and the additional information that NIH has provided on their web site regarding changes to the proposal format and review process at http://grants.nih.gov/ grants/funding/sbir.htm. Take a few minutes to outline your project and then don’t hesitate to give us a call if you have questions or would like to explore how BBC can work with you to prepare a competitive proposal. We also encourage you to attend an upcoming training session if possible.
